Here’s What to Do If You’re Allergic to Your Girlfriend’s Pet

There’s that one member of the family who’ll always greet you once you enter the door to your home, and it’s the furry four-legged kind. Our pet cats and dogs love us unconditionally, and, in return, we love them back. But sometimes there are certain scenarios wherein we have to tell our pets to stay out for a while, and it’s not because they’ve been a bad dog or cat, but because you’re allergic to pet fur.

If your body can’t handle hairy pets, then read on to know some ways to help prevent the breakout of allergy symptoms so as not to let the situation get in the way of your healthy relationship.

Communication is Essential for a Healthy Relationship to Thrive

If you ask for excellent relationship advice from the experts, they might provide different pieces of counsel. However, there’s one advice that you’ll hear a lot – proper communication. To have a long-lasting healthy relationship, communicating with your partner with just about anything will lessen the chances of fights, or worse, breakups. Therefore, when you’re visiting the home of your girlfriend, ask them if they have any pets. Tell them immediately that you’re not offended by the fact that they have a furry four-legged family member, but it might harm your health if the dog or cat gets close to you. Clear communication from the very beginning can assist all parties in working together so true love can still reign supreme.

Tell Fido They Can’t Sleep on the Bed for Awhile

When you visit your girlfriend’s home and you’re going to sleep there for awhile, are you going to share the bed and pillows with just your partner, or will Fido or the house cat join in on the slumber? Pet owners should know that the fastest way for allergic reactions to occur is when you sink your face into a comfy pillow filled with pet fur and dander. If your girlfriend likes to keep their pets beside them at night and you’re going to sleep on her bed for a bit, display your intentions from the beginning that you’ll be sleeping there. In doing so, your girlfriend can prepare by making sure the pillow cases and the mattress coverings are cleaned and changed before you get there.

Increase the Frequency of Vacuuming

Before you came into her life, your girlfriend would probably vacuum her home once a week. Now that you’re there, the frequency of vacuuming the place should increase to help keep your allergic reactions at bay. The use of the vacuum cleaner will suck up a lot of loose pet fur and dander which would otherwise cause allergies. As a bonus, vacuuming will also pick up dust mites, which is also another major culprit in causing allergy symptoms.

Follow these preventive measures if your girlfriend has a pet to help avoid your allergies from flaring up while at her place. Decreasing the load of elements in the household that would otherwise cause allergies can make for happier and healthier relationships than before.
